The world of gaming and Czech history collided once again with the release of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, a highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed RPG set in 15th-century Bohemia. Made by Prague-based Warhorse Studios, the game offers an immersive and historically grounded experience that brings medieval Central Europe to life like never before.
But what makes this game particularly exciting for us at PragueWay? Many of the locations, characters, and stories featured in the game are deeply connected to Czech history and real-life places you can actually visit today. Let’s explore how your Kingdom Come journey can extend beyond the screen into a real-world Czech adventure.
Game World vs Real World: Where History Meets Fantasy
Set in the early 1400s, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II continues the story of Henry of Skalitz, a blacksmith’s son swept into the violent and politically complex world of medieval Bohemia. While the game is fictional, it’s rooted in authentic history, detailed research, and beautifully recreated landscapes.

- Trosky Castle & Český ráj (Bohemian Paradise): One of the most visually iconic castles in the Czech Republic, Trosky Castle is set amidst the stunning nature reserve of Český ráj, which inspired many of the game’s forested regions. Our friend Jan hosts a popular Airbnb day trip experience to this area, which we highly recommend for fans of the game.
- Kutná Hora vs Prague Rivalry: In the 15th century, Kutná Hora (Kuttenberg) was a wealthy silver-mining town and a political rival to Prague. Both cities vied for influence over the Bohemian crown, and the tension between them is reflected in the game’s broader narrative of power struggles.
- Prague Castle & Otto von Bergow: One of the intriguing historical figures in the game, Otto von Bergow, was in reality a Burgrave of Prague Castle, a powerful position with military and political influence. In the game, he’s played by legendary Czech actor Marek Vašut, bringing gravitas and local pride to the role. To learn more about Prague Castle, join our specialized tour – link here.

- The Hussite Period (after the events of the game): While Kingdom Come II is set before the Hussite Wars, players interested in the game’s themes of rebellion and reform may want to dive into the dramatic history that followed. This period saw radical changes in Bohemia, led by figures like Jan Žižka, a military genius and Czech national hero who would go on to lead the Hussite armies.
The Harsh Reality of Medieval Life
Kingdom Come doesn’t romanticize the past. Instead, it shows the rigid class hierarchy of the Middle Ages, with powerful aristocrats dominating a world where peasants often lived in poverty. There were no nation-states yet — allegiances were to local nobles, kings, and church authority. Understanding this structure helps modern players appreciate how fragmented and brutal medieval society could be.
Jan Žižka – From Bohemian Warrior to Legend
Legendary (later Hussite) general Jan Žižka, as depicted in the game
Though not a central character in the game (yet!), Jan Žižka is a name every player of Kingdom Come should know. This one-eyed general became a symbol of Bohemian resistance and tactical brilliance, famously never losing a battle. His legacy is immortalized across the Czech Republic — including the massive equestrian statue on Vítkov Hill in Prague.
Game Tourism & Overtourism
With the popularity of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, many real-world locations featured or inspired by the game are seeing increased visitor numbers. While this is fantastic for tourism, it also presents a challenge. Small villages and historic sites weren’t built for large crowds, so we encourage all fans to travel responsibly, support local guides, and be mindful of preservation efforts.
